Wavering Waters Program: Gradual Steps to Overcome Water Anxiety
Rediscover Comfort Around Water
Water can feel unpredictable and for some, even a simple boat ride or a walk along the shore can trigger tension, worry, or dread. If you’ve started avoiding lakes, oceans, pools, or boating activities, you’re not alone and it’s not a personal failing.
We guide you in rebuilding trust with water at your own pace. Our program is hands-on and supportive, helping you gradually experience:
Being near water without panic
Sitting on a docked boat or standing at the water’s edge
Taking short rides on calm water
Enjoying longer outings, like a fishing trip, when you feel ready
Through gentle, structured exercises and real-world experiences, you’ll learn ways to manage anxious thoughts and sensations, regain confidence, and approach water with a sense of control.
Whether you’re looking to enjoy a boating adventure, a family vacation, or simply feel safe by the water again, our approach helps you take practical steps toward feeling comfortable and confident, without pressure or judgment.
Our Wavering Waters Program guides you safely from anxious to confident, using hands-on experiences on docks and boats to help you feel at ease around water.
Our StoryMy Connection to Water and Why I Created This Program
Being on the water has been part of my family for three generations. For me, time on the water brings healing, calm, and connection, and it’s something I hold close to my heart.
I also personally know what it’s like to struggle with water-related fears. Several family members have experienced anxiety, intense worry, or avoidance when it comes to boats, deep water, or even swimming. Seeing how these fears can limit experiences—and how they affect daily life and family adventures—inspired me to create a program that supports people in a safe, step-by-step way.
Through the Wavering Waters Program, I guide participants to gradually face these fears, build confidence, and reclaim the joy and freedom that water can bring—whether it’s a calm lake, a boating trip, or simply being near the shore.
Quick Facts About Water-Related Fears
Specific Phobias Are Common
About 7–12.5% of adults experience a specific phobia each year.
Roughly 1 in 8 adults may develop a specific phobia in their lifetime.
Thalassophobia
Fear of large or deep bodies of water (oceans, seas, deep lakes).
Often involves anxiety about what’s beneath the surface or being out of control.
Aquaphobia
Broader fear of water in general — pools, lakes, rivers, showers, etc.
Can trigger panic, rapid heartbeat, and avoidance behaviors.
Impact on Daily Life
Water-related fears can limit vacations, boating, swimming, and other recreational or professional activities.
Even small exposures can feel overwhelming without support.
Treatment & Hope
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) helps people face water-related fears gradually.
Builds confidence, reduces anxiety, and encourages safe engagement with water activities.
I created the Wavering Waters Program to guide people step by step—helping them rediscover the peace and joy that water can bring, no matter how long they’ve struggled with fear
